What is BAWP?

IMG_4997The Bay Area Writing Project (BAWP) was established in 1973 at UC Berkeley as a project in the Graduate School of Education. BAWP is a pre-eminent leader in the Bay Area in developing teacher leaders to improve the teaching of writing and improve the use of writing in all subject areas by offering high-quality professional development programs for schools through the San Francisco Bay Area, at all grade levels, K–college and across the curriculum.

As the founding site of the California and National Writing Projects, BAWP’s model program and design are replicated at over 200 colleges and universities throughout the country and numerous sites internationally. BAWP identifies, celebrates, and enhances the professional role of successful classroom teachers.

BAWP’s Young Writer’s Camps are held annually throughout the Bay Area and at two international sites in China.
